Life After the Last One Leaves

As a recent widow and mom to five mostly grown children, I find myself caretaker of the empty nest, keeper of the stuff, tender of the poodle, parrot, and ferret, and adviser to the uninterested.

On Grown & Flown: How My Empty Nest Gave Me Room to Grieve

I am delighted that my first essay for my new blog was purchased and published by Grown & Flown, my favorite website and blog about parenting older kids. My essay is about how my grief of losing my husband took a back seat to my youngest daughter's grief over losing her father. It wasn't until she left for college the following year that I finally found the room I needed to grieve his death, as well as my profoundly empty nest.

You can read the piece here.
